Welcome to Elisheva Maital.Y
I became interested in the dietetics major because I believe food has always been looked at the wrong way. Eating healthy has been viewed as dieting, eating disorders, or trends, while junk food is seen as normal. People focus so much on dieting to look a certain way or reach a number on the scale, and they will go through drastic means to make this happen. Whether it be starving or eating junk they love, just in a calorie deficit. But they don’t focus on the underlying factor: the importance of health and prioritizing eating not just to be skinny, but to be healthy, which is far more important. To build a healthy relationship with food, to prioritize the vitamins and nutrients, to choose food that loves you back and nourishes your body and soul, food that makes you feel alive. This is what we should be eating. But we live in a day and age where fast food is always being thrown at us. Eating has become a means of pleasure and snacking rather than nourishment.
When I was younger, I always contemplated what I wanted to be. I would go back and forth about becoming a teacher, but it wasn’t my main passion. I love nature and the variety of beautiful colors and shapes of food. I want to live a balanced lifestyle and to heal my trauma from others telling me that eating healthy was just dieting. I wanted to get away from what they were all telling me, that toxic mindset. Then I found dietetics as a major, and it included all of those aspects. I could relate to people, reframe their mind to get away from associating diet with restriction, and encourage them to live balanced lives while seeing the beauty in natural foods and how they uplift us.
